Laura Dre Biography
Shaping the Soundscapes of Synth Pop
Laura Dre’s mesmerizing fusion of electronic and contemporary synth pop has solidified her position as a leading figure in the ever-evolving synth and retrowave scene, while simultaneously leaving an indelible mark on modern electronic pop itself. Drawing inspiration from musical icons such as Shirley Manson and Alison Goldfrapp, Laura’s rare contralto voice resonates with echoes of luminaries like Trevor Something and PJ Harvey, crafting a distinctive sonic identity that captivates audiences worldwide.
Born into a world of melody and rhythm, Laura’s musical journey began when she received her first guitar at the tender age of 12. It was a catalyst that ignited her passion for music production and recording, leading her to delve deeper into the realms of sonic experimentation. By 2003, Laura had already begun honing her craft, laying the foundation for what would become an illustrious career in music.
In 2004, Laura’s talent caught the attention of Radio Insect Records, marking the beginning of her professional journey in the music industry. Following a stint touring with a metal and pop/rock band in the vibrant music scene of Los Angeles, USA, Laura made the bold decision to embark on a solo career, setting her sights on the bustling streets of London, UK.
It was in London that Laura found her musical home, forming the electrifying ensemble known as Vinyl Black Stilettos. Their innovative sound quickly gained recognition, with tracks featured on the BBC3-produced serial drama “Lip Service” and a visually stunning music video produced by Ridley Scott Associates/RSA Films.
Laura’s star continued to rise as she graced the stages of major LGBTQ+ events worldwide, captivating audiences with her dynamic performances. From Greece to Canada, from France to the USA, Laura’s musical odyssey knew no bounds, leaving an indelible impression on fans across the globe.
In 2016, Laura furthered her musical education at the prestigious University of West London, graduating with First-Class Honours in music production. Armed with newfound skills and knowledge, Laura set her sights on a new milestone: the completion of her debut solo album, “Moving Spaces.” Released via independent record label Outland Recordings, the album seamlessly blended her influences of 80s synthpop, gaming, and synthesizers with intricately crafted lyrics exploring themes of unrequited love.
Laura’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she departed from her record label and independently funded her subsequent albums, “Kyoto Dreams” (2022) and “AKARI LD-01” (2023), along with a successor album to her debut, “Moving Spaces II: Twilight,” released on vinyl records, cassettes, and CDs through successful crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.
To date, Laura has commercially released over 51 successful songs across four albums, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in the world of synth pop and electronic music. With her boundless creativity and unwavering dedication to her craft, Laura Dre continues to push the boundaries of sonic innovation, leaving an indelible legacy on the musical landscape for generations to come.
